And yes, I had my child photograph me voting for Obama. Call it what you will...I'm a dork.
And yes, I photographed my self driving from Newport home to Burke to vote. I'm a super dork.
My super wonderful dork.
So righteous to be a dork for those reasons. When I stepped into the booth I clasped my hands together and held them on the ballot. I closed my eyes and bowed my head. I am not one who prays, and I did not -- but there are times in my life, when the weight of possibility encases me and I just have to stay very still and let my mind be quiet, and just feel it. This was one of those times. After I felt complete quiet in me I marked my ballot, felt my tears -- and some hope... I still feel some hope...and I feel, not just like history was made last night but that history itself made last night happen -- all the years of civil rights work, all the pro-women work, all the anti-war work, all the pro-union work, all our Native American centered work, etc. etc. all the people who gave with their lives, all the people who pushed themselves beyond bravery, all the people who went home with blistered feet and scared heads but then did it again -- whether or not thier names were known to history -- all the people who were derided by their peers who simply wanted to succeed, whose parents were often ashamed of them and whose children then marginalize them as 'old hippies' this election happened in part because the young adults who won it started off standing on the shoulders of folks who had paved quite some hell of a long road. Imagine what your children will be capable of changing when they have moved forward from the paving of the road you do.
Dork, hell -- that's just creativity. I thought the pics were excellent!
